Letter 4
September 3rd, 2008 by Margie
Dear Vegetable Husband customer,
Well it is actually September and the summer crops are slowing if not completely disappearing. We have said goodbye to the beautiful blueberries and soon the Georgia apples will be a regular part of our diet as fall approaches. This week your produce is coming from two farms, Full Moon Co-op in Athens and Whippoorwill Hollow Farms in Walnut Grove. We are trying fruit from Walnut Grove this week. You have a native Georgia grape, the Muscadine this week!
I have added the roma tomatoes to your baskets again this week because so many of you raved about them. Thanks for the feedback. It helps. I thought these were the tastiest treats when I tried them on the farm but when I made a simple tomato basil sauce from them, oh my! Good stuff!
I will save my lengthy rants for my field notes on the website but please cherish your food even if I am not providing it for you. The news becomes more and more disturbing to me everyday as our government announces new ways they are making our produce a health hazard, rather than something that nourishes our body — just one more reason to support your local farmer and local economy. Below is the list of your goodies for this week:
Potatoes
Eggplant
Sweet peppers
Heirloom flatpod beans
Roma Tomatoes
Eva heirloom tomatoes
Basil
Parsley
Muscadines
I am happy to be providing you with Georgia produce, free of any pesticides and ripened to perfection. Do not hesitate to call or e-mail with any questions you have and enjoy the recipes I will post on the website each week to help you use some of your ingredients. Remember, I am happy to talk FOOD!
Cheers,
Margie Thorpe
