Letter 22

January 7th, 2009 by Margie

Dear Vegetable Husband Customer,

Happy New Year!  With all the unpredictable weather this season, our farmers are working overtime trying to keep food going for us.  I feel fortunate that all this effort is being done for our community to have great fresh healthy choices for our table.  This week is no exception.  We have veggies from four different farms, Full Moon in Athens, Taylorganics, Steve Miller’s Farm in Clarkston and Whippoorwill Hollow Farm in Walnut Grove.

As we all enter a new year, I am overwhelmed with the old cliché, “you are what you eat.”  My father spent most of this last week in the hospital and all I discussed with doctors over and over were his poor eating habits.  Think how much we are loving our bodies when we take that extra time to clean the salad this week, rather than picking up some pre-packaged food.  Think about how much more nutrients fresh picked vegetables give your body rather than food that has been sitting in coolers and trucks waiting to arrive at market.  It might be a little late for my dad to think about lifestyle changes and diet choices but it’s not for me.  Join me in making conscious decisions each day to pass over food that is loaded with crazy chemicals for a fresh, tasty treat for our taste buds and our body.  I can’t say I always make the right decision, but I always think about it.  (smiles)

Below is your list of goodies for this week:

Mixed salad greens
Bok choy
Swiss chard
Turnips with greens
Cabbage
Carrots
Onions

Enjoy your bounty and please wash these greens and herbs well!  We are still working on the new website, so look for a different look in 09.  I am really focusing on making everything user-friendly.  If you have requests or suggestions, let me hear from you.

Remember, if you have any questions, feel free to e-mail or call me.  I am always happy to talk FOOD!

Namaste,
Margie Thorpe
