Letter 23
January 14th, 2009 by Margie
Dear Vegetable Husband customer,
Brrrrr! Cuddle up and maybe make some soup this week. It is going to be COLD! The farmers worked so late on Tuesday to cover and protect your food. Unfortunately, many items fell prey to the freeze last night. Your kale bags look like they are a measured illegal substance because of the cut that nature took from us. That’s ok because you have lots of wonderful salad greens and beautiful rainbow chard this week.
There is also a pint of brussel sprouts in our baskets for the week. I am loading a simple and delicious recipe on the website for those of you who are shy of this veggie. Try it!! We are also lucky to have carrots one more week. Steve Miller’s farm also had some sweet potato fingerlings tucked away. He shared these with us this week as a bonus. Some might not be as vibrant as others. You can always use them for soup stock.
PLEASE remember that I am in DC this next week and vegetable husband is closed for the changing of our nations’ leadership. Let’s all try to get Obama to put an organic garden somewhere around that White House. I know I am writing my letter! Maybe he can ask Mrs Reagan where Ronnie put Jimmy’s solar panels, too. (grins)
Below is your list of goodies for this week:
Mixed salad greens
kale
rainbow Swiss chard
brussel sprouts
cilantro
sweet potato fingerlings
Carrots
Onions
For you new folks joining our community this week, please enjoy and know that the amounts do vary from week to week based on local farm availability. This might be a slightly skinny week, but savor every bite. I know I do and it makes me feel great!
Remember, if you have any questions, feel free to e-mail or call me. I am always happy to talk FOOD!
Namaste,
Margie Thorpe
