Letter 31

March 18th, 2009 by Margie

Dear Vegetable Husband Customer,

Every time I think I am getting the hang of this, I get hit with a new challenge.  This week the food was scarce once again.  I arrived at Full Moon in Athens to find that one of our veggies I ordered just did not grow enough this week.  Ya can’t push nature.  We quickly switched to another salad green so instead of lettuce you have fine baby arugula this week.  Keep your fingers crossed for next week to be bountiful.  The rain and today’s sunshine is certainly going to help.

You also have green garlic this week and believe me, it will be the first thing you smell!  My car will smell like garlic all week, which is fine by me.  This is my first time having this and I am so thankful to Full Moon Farm for harvesting this young plant.  It is the plant before it forms the garlic bulb as I understand it.  You can chop the lower portion of the stalk and use it as garlic.  I am so excited about this that I can’t wait to get to a knife and a cast iron skillet!  The taste of garlic without peeling…ahhhhh.

I noticed that the recipe for last week did not post until the other night.  Thank you for pointing this out to me.  Anytime something is not on the website, please let me know.  We are changing over to a new website in the next week or two and I am sure there will be a few glitches.

Spring is here and the spring crops will be here any day now.  Take good care of yourself and enjoy your fresh picked food.  I so enjoy gathering it for you. Below is your list of goodies for this week:

Collards
Arugula
Rainbow chard
Cilantro
parsley
Green garlic
Carrots
Onions

And remember, if you have any questions, feel free to e-mail or call me.  I am always happy to talk FOOD!

Namaste,
Margie Thorpe
