Dear Vegetable Husband Customer,
First of all, for those of you that do actually check out my website for recipes and info, I am so sorry that I am behind. My computer died on me, and it has been very difficult just to make sure I keep all your veggie orders straight. We are switching out the website to a very new look this week so you will receive a note soon to check it out. Give me honest feedback. I promise to have all your web services on track again soon.
Friday is May Day, the day of spring fertility. Try to look around you and notice all the wonderful things that are happening that have a direct relationship to your food. I watch the bees and the birds busy with their work. We need every living creature to do his or her part. That includes all of us too. Congratulate yourself for being an active member of nature.
This week we have beautiful radishes picked this morning at Full Moon and their wonderful salad. The turnip greens are from Rashid at Truly Living Well Farm and many have small turnips on the ends but they are not near what they will be soon. I say sauté the greens with the little baby bulb on the end. It will be delicious and add a little of your green garlic in with it. Yumm!
You also have a small bunch of onions this week and these are Vidalia onions but not grown in the correct county to be labeled so. Enjoy your misplaced Vidalias. I am going to throw mine on the grill whole after rubbing with some olive oil and a bit of salt. I did this with one large leek this year and it was great. These should be even better.Below is your list of goodies for this week:
Mixed lettuce
Spinach
Vidalia Onions (grown here)
Turnip Greens
Radishes
Arugula
Green Garlic
Oregano
We are confirmed that next week we will have strawberries. As with everything this year, the season is just starting a little slow. I can’t wait to dive into our own local fruit! From there, it will only be a short time until we are picking and choosing between blueberries, summer apples, muscadines and much more. Have a great week and remember, I am always happy to TALK FOOD!

Dear Vegetable Husband Customer,
Happy Earth Day, y’all!! I hope you all enjoyed the fruits from a neighboring farmer in Florida last week. Many of you commented on the oranges. Thanks for the wonderful feedback. I always share that with the grower. It lets them feel a real connection and keeps them charged. This week we have wonderful beets and carrots from Taylorganics. These sugary veggies will have to be our fruit for now. Soon we will be enjoying our own Georgia berries. Remember, the beet greens are a delicious veggie too. I will forward you a recipe for roasted beets and beet greens with pasta. It was a magical supper for me.
You also have a head of Chinese cabbage this week. This is a great treat. You can sauté or steam this or chop it raw for a salad. If you look in the recipes, there is a wonderful Asian chicken salad recipe that I will use over and over for Chinese cabbage. For my vegetarian friends, cooked tofu as a protein is also great with this recipe. I like both!
Many of you took advantage of the availability of eggs this week. This will be a regular courtesy if all goes well so anytime you need more just get an email in by Monday. Please recycle your egg cartons. The farm uses all recycled cartons (I promise I am not running to Publix for these like the carton reads…lol)
Below is your list of goodies for this week:
Mixed lettuce
Swiss chard
Spring Onions
Carrots
Beets
Chinese Cabbage
Chocolate mint and Spearmint bouquet
Spring is in full motion now so we should really start to enjoy more and more variety in the coming weeks. Thanks to all of you that joined me in eating local all winter. We have arrived into the next season now. Have a great week and remember, I am always happy to TALK FOOD!

I love what you have to say to me so much that I thought you should all know what a loving community we are all sharing. This category will become a collection of the wonderful, heartfelt cards & notes that I receive. Please keep them coming!
Please remeber as you eat your selections during the week, you are part of a shared community and all of us dining with Vegetable Husband are also consciously joining a larger community of Georgia local eaters also enjoying the same variety of food.

Dear Vegetable Husband Customer,
Breathe! I know some of you might forget to do that on tax day but it is the most important gift you give yourself, a nice deep breath. I definitely had to give myself this message this morning. Breathe in, look around and take in all the beauty being offered. Hopefully you will find some of this week’s beauty in your basket.
I made a personal trip to Florida over the holiday and spent all day on the weekend picking fruit for us. You will enjoy naturally grown (not certified organic) citrus this week from our neighbors in Florida. Hope you don’t mind us borrowing from a subtropical neighbor since I was there anyway. The oranges are really juicy so be prepared to wash up after biting into one.
You have the first of the spring lettuce and it is beautiful. I have already tasted some today as I picked. Yes, I harvested along with the folks at Full Moon this morning to get the amount we needed. It keeps me so close to the food to have the honor of cutting away each little leaf of your lettuce. I am thankful of all the wonderful folks and resources that go into feeding us each week.
You have a bag of mixed lettuce, a bag of swiss chard, a bag of mixed kale and a small bag of spinach. If anyone is confused about which is which feel free to call me or email me. There are so many varieties of these that I sometimes have to ask the farmers to point them out for me, even after all this time. Below is your list of goodies for this week:
Swiss chard
Mixed lettuce
spinach
Arugula
Mixed Kale
Spring Onions
Oranges
Grapefruit
1 large stalk of Green garlic
I hope you find the time this week to enjoy the beginnings of spring, both in the food you eat and the surroundings you view. As soon as I clear all the fallen branches from my yard, I will enjoy the surroundings a lot more!

Dear Vegetable Husband Customer,
Tonight is Passover, this weekend is Easter and we are in the middle of Spring break so whichever holiday or occasion you choose to honor, I hope this wonderful harvest of food will assist you. Full Moon harvested a load of swiss chard so you have a huge bouquet as well as the other gorgeous greens. We have a new delicacy this week and that is the small arrangement of Austrian pea tendrils. This is the top of the pea plant and you can eat raw as a sprout or in a stir fry. I ate mine in the car on the way home.
You each have one large stalk and several small ones of the green garlic on a bunch together. These are separate from your bunch of green onions. If you get them confused, smell them. The garlic will always come through.
Our farm in Athens is really having a rough season. As I walked and harvested our green garlic stalks this morning (yes I worked!), the fields were full of empty holes that were supposed to be cabbages such as cauliflower and broccoli. The tough part of organic is sometimes other critters get the food before us! I bought all the food he could harvest today to help them out. Enjoy the lovely week of greens for our holidays. Below is your list of goodies for this week:
Swiss chard
Collards
Russian Red Kale
Spring Onions
Carrots
Green garlic
Austrian pea tendrils
Parsley
I want you all to know that I have been struggling caring for my father is the dutiful daughter and taking care of our weekly veggie needs really makes me happy and restores my energy. It also helps me remember how very important simple healthy food is. Enjoy and remember, if you have any questions, feel free to e-mail or call me. I am always happy to talk FOOD!
Namaste,
