Letter 35
April 15th, 2009 by Margie
Dear Vegetable Husband Customer,
Breathe! I know some of you might forget to do that on tax day but it is the most important gift you give yourself, a nice deep breath. I definitely had to give myself this message this morning. Breathe in, look around and take in all the beauty being offered. Hopefully you will find some of this week’s beauty in your basket.
I made a personal trip to Florida over the holiday and spent all day on the weekend picking fruit for us. You will enjoy naturally grown (not certified organic) citrus this week from our neighbors in Florida. Hope you don’t mind us borrowing from a subtropical neighbor since I was there anyway. The oranges are really juicy so be prepared to wash up after biting into one.
You have the first of the spring lettuce and it is beautiful. I have already tasted some today as I picked. Yes, I harvested along with the folks at Full Moon this morning to get the amount we needed. It keeps me so close to the food to have the honor of cutting away each little leaf of your lettuce. I am thankful of all the wonderful folks and resources that go into feeding us each week.
You have a bag of mixed lettuce, a bag of swiss chard, a bag of mixed kale and a small bag of spinach. If anyone is confused about which is which feel free to call me or email me. There are so many varieties of these that I sometimes have to ask the farmers to point them out for me, even after all this time. Below is your list of goodies for this week:
Swiss chard
Mixed lettuce
spinach
Arugula
Mixed Kale
Spring Onions
Oranges
Grapefruit
1 large stalk of Green garlic
I hope you find the time this week to enjoy the beginnings of spring, both in the food you eat and the surroundings you view. As soon as I clear all the fallen branches from my yard, I will enjoy the surroundings a lot more!
Namaste,
Margie Thorpe
