Letter 46

July 1st, 2009 by Margie

Dear Vegetable Husband Customer,

It is now July and the 4th is this weekend.  I hope you are planning some cool summer dishes to go with your holiday.  I tried to find veggies that would accommodate this.  As hard as I tried to find us some local organic corn, it was just not in the cards.  It will be here in a week or so, though.  This week you can enjoy a few potatoes as a starch.  I also bought all the blackberries I could.  These are the small containers but these berries are like jewels.  I wanted to munch on them but since supply was short, I stayed away.  As we get deeper and deeper into summer, fruit will be more plentiful.  Enjoy your first kiss of the berries.

I have also added two different herbs for this week since the weekend will be a scorcher of a holiday.  I thought a refreshing drink with mint might be nice or mint and basil in your salad.  Together they are really great.  I am going to make a mint and walnut pesto this weekend to go on some grilled entrees.  If you are vegetarian, grilled veggies with brushed pesto are great, too.  So many possibilities…

I still have not found the rightful owner of this really large dog leash I inherited.  Please let me know if you are missing one.  Always check your baskets for belongings that are not mine, (smiles) or thanks for the gifts!

I hope you will consider getting out to see Food, INC before it leaves Midtown 8 theater.  This film really speaks to our principles and will leave you feeling so good about the decisions you are already making and possibly motivated to do even more.

Below is your list of goodies for this week:

Cucumbers
Heirloom lettuce
Chocolate mint
Sweet basil
Pole beans
Stringless Green Beans
Yellow squash
Potatoes (red and gold)
blackberries

Have a great July 4th weekend and remember, I am always happy to TALK FOOD!

Namaste,
Margie Thorpe
