Dear Vegetable Husband Customer,
As we can all see, the seasons they are a changin’. The fall leaves are spectacular on the road today, the full moon was amazing last night, and the food that’s growing under the sun and moon looks amazing this week. I know I threatened before, but this is truly the last pick of the eggplant and peppers. The winter temperatures have confirmed that. The good news is these same temperatures are bringing on all of our lovely fall greens.
This week we will enjoy some greens as well as broccoli flowers from Full Moon Farms. We also have mixed Asian greens from Neal Taylor’s farm and his delicious parsnips again. Brooks and Camille have shared their clustering green onions with us, and your parsley is coming from Whippoorwill Hollow Farm this week. For those of you that raved about the tart tasty sorrel, we have more! I really love using Becky’s recipe for sorrel pesto. It was super easy and extra delish! This week’s recipe will help you with ideas for your parsnips and green onions.
Below is your list of goodies for this week:
Black Beauty Eggplant
Mixed Sweet Peppers
Broccoli Leaves and Flowers
Mixed Asian Greens
Parsnips
Beets with Greens
Sorrel
Clustering Green Onions
Flat Leaf Parsley
A Few Mild Hot Peppers
Both you and the farmers have been asking what we plan to do Thanksgiving week. I have full intentions of providing you with food for your Thanksgiving holiday however I will back the delivery day up to Tuesday so you can actually be cooking on that Wednesday evening. We will all have very specific needs for our holiday meals, and I want to facilitate that. This is why I will provide you with a menu of vegetables available from the farms from which you can choose – more details soon! Enjoy your fall crops, and remember, I’m always happy to talk food.
Namaste,
Margie Thorpe
