Letter 115
October 27th, 2010 by Margie
Dear Vegetable Husband Customer,
I have to say thank you to all the wonderful response I have received from the VH survey sent out this weekend. If you have not filled it out yet, please take a few minutes to do so this week. It will definitely affect what I order with our farms for next year. One of the things that you said you would like in this letter was the farm name listed by each veggie so I have added this to your letter today. Keep the feedback coming!
The lettuce and the watermelon radishes were amazing last week so we had to get more today. We are even doing some photos to show this beautiful radish on the website later this week. You also have a bag of baby kale from Woodland Gardens this week that can be sautéed, steamed or eaten raw. I am thinking about a kale and apple slaw tonight. I will let you know how it turns out. One survey comment also asked for a bulletin area so all of you could talk to each other about cooking the veggies during the week and we are working on making this a reality on www.vegetablehusband.com soon. For now, I will add the letter with a photo and a link to the recipe for the week. You are always welcome to start comment trails from there. Below is your list of goodies for this week:
Sun chokes – The Funny Farm
Kamatsuna greens – Moonbeam Farm
Baby lacinato kale – Woodland Gardens
Watermelon radishes – Woodland Gardens
White Turnips with greens – Moonbean Farm
Head of lettuce – Woodland Gardens
Apples (either small Yates or Arkansas Blacks) – Govus Orchard
Cilantro – Woodland Gardens
The sun chokes might be a new item for some of you. This is also called Jerusalem artichokes at times. There are a couple of recipes on the website to help you with ideas but I highly recommend a simple thick slicing and roasting them in the oven. I will cut some and roast with pieces of my apples tonight. So easy and like a wonderful candy! Also, I will be returning to the orchard on Tuesday for more of the small Yates that will be harvested for us so please let me know how you like these smaller ones. I had some problems with the larger variety (Arkansas blacks) so please write us if yours are not satisfactory. If we can’t am always happy to TALK FOOD!
Namaste,
Margie Thorpe
