Letter 120
December 1st, 2010 by Margie
Dear Vegetable Husband Customer,
I hope you all had a beautiful Thanksgiving. I was thankful that all your custom baskets got out to you! This week we are enjoying more root veggies, including Serenbe’s sunchokes and beets. I am going to be so sad when these disappear. It is my roasted candy. We also have kohlrabi from Jenny Jack Sun Farm. If you have no idea what to do with a kohlrabi, feel free to check out the Vegetable Husband facebook site for some recipes. We have them up now and will add them to our website later tonight. You can also call me if you have specific questions.
The other exciting basket treat is the head of cauliflower this week from Celia at Woodland Gardens. We have posted a recipe for this on vegetablehusband.com. You could also cook the cauliflower with the broccoli raab from Moonbeam farm. I might put them in a roasting pan together with some butter and parmesan. What could be better?! The other greens in your basket are the Asian komatsuna greens. Remember these can be lightly steamed or sautéed or you can use them raw in salad. You can also eat some of your Swiss chard in a salad too. I know some people that don’t like it cooked but love it raw. The chard comes from Woodland Gardens too. Below is your list of goodies:
Cauliflower – Woodland Gardens
Swiss Chard – Woodland Gardens
Broccoli Arab Greens – Moonbeam Farm
Komatsuna Greens – Moonbeam Farm
Sunchokes – Serenbe Farm
Green Onions – Serenbe Farm
Beets with greens – Serenbe Farm
Kohlrabi – Jenny Jack Son Farm
I know many of you missed the opportunity to order extras this week but your extras note will return this Friday. We just needed a chance to catch up from the holiday delivery. Our coffee products will be available next week but there will be a price increase since I received their new price list that goes into effect this week. I am currently putting together options for gift baskets if you would like to think of your local farms and producers for holiday gift ideas. I will try to have these options available to you within the next week. You can always buy a gift subscription for someone special as long as they live inside our delivery area. I will try to work with your needs too so feel free to ask if there is something specific you would like. Especially now, please remember, I am always happy to TALK FOOD!
Namaste,
Margie Thorpe
