Exciting news this morning! Vegetable Husband was this year’s staff pick for Creative Loafing’s Best of Atlanta 2011 in the category Best Way to Skip a Trip to the Farmers Market. Congratulations to Margie, and high fives to the VegHub team and clients for making Vegetable Husband such a success! We’re grateful to everyone who voted for us in this year’s Best of Atlanta 2011 survey.

Michael Pollan is one of my favorite authors. He is an all around smart guy and he knows his foods! Over the years he has written many great books that discuss where our food comes from, how its grown, and even the politics behind the seeds themselves. One of my favorite books that he has written is called The Botany Of Desire. This book discusses the five most influential plants in the world and it really gives you a more intimate view of everyday horticulture. He also discusses in some of his other books the importance of buying local and organic foods and which ones are the best for us to be eating. Yet, another good reason to try a delicious Vegetable Husband basket if you haven’t already! Not only are you eating great, nutrient rich foods, but you are also helping to support your local farmers.
Here is a link to some of Michael Pollan’s other books, which are a great read too!

A lot of us struggle with the option of buying organic vs. non organic produce, but I have to say the benefits far outweigh the extra few dollars you may pay for organic vegetables. With all the taxes, fuel charges and energy required to bring produce to the grocery stores, wouldn’t you rather spend a few extra dollars and support your local farmers directly rather than say, Chile or California?
Its also important to support organic farming for the environment as well. Runoff from chemical fertilizers end up in our rivers and streams and this is damaging for the environment. There is a great book called Animal, Vegetable, Miracle written by Barbara Kingsolver that discusses this in great detail and the importance of supporting your local farmers. Check out the book and try a vegetable basket from Vegetable Husband if you haven’t already. Not only will you be supporting your local farmers, but you’ll also be helping the environment as well!

Hey there, I am so excited to share an article featured in ‘The Sunday Paper’ weekly publication. They not only took the time to interview me, but also called a couple of you to hear from clients. It’s so nice that people are interested in local healthy food sources! Check it out!
